France is a country of soaring emotions. It is only by travelling to appreciate the importance of beauty. Nantes Cathedral was one of the last to be built in Medieval France and its vaults rise higher than those of Notre Dame in Paris. One of the most spectacular shopping malls in Europe- the Passage Pommeraye is on three levels. Each elaborate staircase illuminated by gas lamps held a lot by individually carved marble figures. Lourdes is the largest themed attraction area in southern France. It caters for the six million Catholic pilgrims who come here every year. There's even a pilgrim season- from Easter to the end of October. The picturesque Pic du Jer raises an altitude of a thousand metres. As we clib the smell of pine trees and the gentle mountain air dispel all worldly worries.
